Welcome to the third issue of the OSA Spectrum. Origami has been around for a couple thousand years (give or take a few depending on what source you are reading) with little change in the actual technique. It is defined as the art of paper folding. This can be done with any type of paper, although thin, lightweight paper is preferred. We typically associate the word origami with those neat paper folded animals, cups, hats, boats and other shapes. But with origami paper there are many other ways crafters have incorporated the paper. Iris folding and layering are probably the other two big uses that crafters have used origami paper for. This issue has many examples of origami used in projects, many with directions. I am most grateful to the following wonderful OSA members who offered their time and efforts to this issue of the Spectrum. So let us give thanks to: Annette, Brenda, Carla, Carolyn, Dominique, Heather, Jane, Kate, Sonia, TLinda, Vanessa, and Violet. If it weren't for these great OSAers I would still be sitting here trying to figure out how to do some very sad paper folding Catrina Kohl, Editor The Projects section has samples and how to do the techniques illustrated in the samples. The Gleanings section includes tips on origami and paper. The Web Links page has links to other sites on the web that have information on origami, including diagrams of all sorts. The Gallery contains more examples of origami, including links to previous swaps that have had origami as a theme. The Bibliography lists useful books for the origami enthusiast, beginner to advanced. We hope you enjoy this third zine! Contributors: |
